About the Event

According to the US Surgeon General, social media is incredibly dangerous for our children – as dangerous as cancer-causing cigarettes! Yet every kid seems to have access to it and, as a result, many of our children are struggling mentally. We've all heard the warnings, but what can we as parents do about it?

Join American Association of Singapore, Stamford American International School and International Medical Clinic for this incredibly important and timely talk. We'll give you actual steps you can take and cover these topics and more:

  • warning signs of depression
  • what to do if your child exhibits these signs
  • how to prepare your child to use social media
  • suggestions on curtailing social media
  • how to set your child's devices
  • other steps you can take to keep your child safe

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS TALK?

In June, US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy outlined in a scathing New York Times op-ed, that drew a direct comparison between the apps — TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and others — to cancer causing cigarettes. Then on September 11, bipartisan representatives from 42 states demanded that Congress require Surgeon General warning labels on social media apps to help curtail addiction and a mental health crisis among young adults.

Warning are important and may do some good. But in the meantime, WHAT CAN YOU DO AS A PARENT?

COST: FREE

We feel this topic is so important that we are offering this talk to everybody for free.
