Volunteer Opportunity: Shoeboxes for Sailors 2023

Giving back is as American as apple pie, baseball and... well... Thanksgiving!

So as we celebrate the blessings of the past year with our family and friends this Thanksgiving, let's share our joy with those who are far from home and thank them for their service.

Join American Association of Singapore and Stamford American International School to pack food and leisure items for US sailors this holiday season. Show your appreciation for their service by helping fill shoeboxes of treats to keep them occupied while they are out at sea with no Internet! (Yes, you read right! There is no Internet on those ships!) A few yummy homemade treats would be most appreciated, too.

Here are some of the suggested items you can bring:

• Packaged biscuits and cookies (fresh baked items can only be dropped the morning of the event at SAIS)
• Snacks: candy, popcorn, chips, etc.
• Playing cards
• Small games & crafts (that fit in a shoe box) 
• Books & magazine 
• Puzzles, crosswords, Soduku etc
• Pens & Notepaper
• Thank You cards

We will be providing the shoeboxes so all you need to do is show up and fill them! Please let us know what you're bringing so we make sure we have enough items. 

If you can't be there on the day, no worries. We will set up a collection box in the Community Engagement Offices at the school and the entrance of The American Club from November 1 to November 17. Learn more here.

This is also a great way to get your kids into the spirit of giving at Thanksgiving! Your kids could even write a note or draw a picture for the sailors. What a treat!
